It is 2014 and in the latest edition of NBA 2K14 (that’s a computer game), if you are not social media savvy as a coach of your championship basketball side, you will pay a hefty price.
If even games are taking social media interaction seriously, why are some businesses not?
Especially when WordPress makes it so easy to inject social sharing buttons on your website so that your supporters can share your story for you.
Need to stay hungry
Two things caught my attention while playing NBA 2014 with my nephew on the weekend.
Firstly, the game puts young players into the shoes of coaches and subjects them to media conferences.
They get to choose from set answers for the typical, low value, predictable style of content known as sports ‘journalism’ BUT their choice of answer will effect morale among team players and impact their playing quality in the next match.
This is breeding a generation of media savvy consumers who will read our weak communication tricks like a book, especially if we are trying to manipulate people cynically.
Secondly, if you as a coach in this game do NOT respond to social media comments made by computerised fans, you will lose crowd support and team morale, again effecting your actual scoreline.
This is a very big reminder, brought to use by computer game programmers, that our society consists of people communicating with people.
Need to carry this momentum on
So my point today is that IF you have been doing your best to provide the best products and/or services to the marketplace and using every ounce of passion to make sure clients/customers/members have good, valuable experiences with you, then embracing social media is simply the next little step.
And one of the simplest ways to take that first step is to enable some type of social sharing plugin on your WordPress website.
These plugins make little buttons appear on each page of your site so that if a reader likes the content they can simply and quickly SHARE the link to that particular page with THEIR friends via THEIR social networks. You will see them at the bottom of this page.
Try one (hint) and see how easy it is to share today’s articles with your contacts in various social networks.
Of course, Baker Marketing website clients will have these already installed and in this case, today’s message is to make sure you are still applying yourself to the creation of useful, valuable, helpful content so that all the foundations you have laid under your website can be building a valuable position of expertise and trust on the web.
