WordPress basics: Formatting a blog post [video]

wordpress-basics-formatting Photo Steve DavisThis week we continue the four part video series on basic WordPress techniques.

Last week, we began by doing everything to get a blog post published and today we will format the post.

A scattering of headings help the medicine go down

By scattering short heading through your blog posts, you not only get a chance to alert readers to the theme of each section of your piece, but you give them encouragement.

Short headings help the eye persevere, especially with longer blog posts, by giving it resting spaces throughout your work.

Simply add the text for a heading, highlight or select it, and then click Heading 4 from the dropdown menu (or other heading style depending on how your site has been set up).

Tweaking the title

Another formatting trick is changing the title.

Each WordPress blog post has a visible title and a ‘permalink’ – the actual wording of the link that connects your article to the rest of your website.

In the video, I show you how to tweak it.

Basically, if you want to change your title, make changes in the title field, click Edit in the small box under that field, delete the previous text that was there, click ok, and then publish or update your post.

Next week, I explain categories and tags.
